ABOUT US

ForumCC – also known as the Tanzanian Civil Society Forum on Climate Change –is an association of civil society organisations committed to work on climate change in their own programmes as well as through advocacy. It brings together development and environment organizations, those with technical skills and those with a more delivery and advocacy focus. This combination of organisations is important to ensure effective engagement of civil society that draws on the range of skills and perspectives of different organisations, such as linking the research groups with those that can use research findings for advocacy.

ForumCC has been operating since October 2008. The Forum was formalized in October 2009, and received funding from DFID for its first year of operations.

Purpose of the Forum

To ensure effective and informed engagement of Civil Society Organisations in Tanzania on Climate Change issues for the benefit of the environment and people in poverty who are affected.

Main Areas of Engagement and Related Activities
Helping ForumCC members in influencing and advocating for an effective response to CC from the national to global level.
Supporting effective coordination and information sharing among CSOs in Tanzania on CC issues.
Strengthening capacity of CS in Tanzania to respond to CC in their programme and advocacy work.

ForumCC Membership

ForumCC Membership is open to civil society organizations working in Tanzania on climate related issues. Interested individuals who are not associated with such organizations may join the Forum as “Associate Members”.The Coordination Team will further develop detailed criteria for its membership, describing the types and roles of members and the targeted number of members at a future point.

Forum CC Governance

ForumCC has a collaborative leadership structure that is accountable to the ForumCC Membership. ForumCC is coordinated by a Programme Manager, Rebecca Muna, who heads the ForumCC Secretariat, acts on behalf of the ForumCC Board and Forum members more broadly.

The Secretariat plans ForumCC activities to be implemented through partnerships with Members and other interested organizations. It is also instrumental to gauging the impact of ForumCC activities, through its contacts with the ForumCC Membership. The Board Directors are from OXFAM, MUVEK, EPMS, SONARECOD, UNA, and TAPHGO. Directors of the Board are to be renewed through voting during the Annual General Meeting.

Links and coordination with other networks

The Forum is aware of other networks of various kinds which relate to climate change and is open to linking with these. Many of these are already represented within the Forum and improving the sharing between different initiatives is one of the main roles for the Forum.

The added values of this Forum compared to others that exist are largely in three areas:
The focus on organising and strengthening the voice of Tanzanian CSOs on CC
Focus on advocacy on climate change policy issues
Dealing specifically with CC and the overall positions on CC, compared to other networks that are either broadly environment orientated or have specific issues focuses such as on forestry.

Communicating with the ForumCC
The Programme Manager manages all communications with the ForumCC Membership on behalf of the Board. Any member of ForumCC or the general public wishing to communicate with the ForumCC Membership should send his/her request to the Programme Manager at admin@forumcc.org in Swahili or English.
